DJKA is Influenced by the work of David Bowie and both Bryan Ferry and Brian Eno of the British glam-rock band Roxy Music, as well as the music of the Japanese founder of Yellow Magic Orchestra, Ryuichi Sakamoto and the English artist David Sylvian of the band Japan. Also, Traffic, Cockney Rebel, Gary Numan, John Foxx and the earliest incarnation of Ultravox, Serge Gainsbourg, movie composers John Barry, Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Georges Delerue and Angelo Badalamenti; and music artists Max Richter, Harold Budd, Iggy Pop, Chic, DJ Shadow, Andy Warhol’s The Velvet Underground, Kevin Ayers, Robert Wyatt and, of course, Soft Machine.
Other influences include the pioneering German electronic group Kraftwerk, German experimental bands such as Amon Duul, Einstürzende Neubauten and Can from the 1970s. Also, avant garde composers Phillip Glass, Terry Riley and bands King Crimson, Blondie and T. Rex were all inspirations and influences from Rock’s great past. Not to mention Cole Porter, Malcolm Maclaren, Grace Jones and Miles Davis!
More recent musical influences include Saint Etienne, Simple Minds, Cerrone, Bjork, Goldfrapp, Nightmares On Wax, The Black Dog, The Future Sound Of London, Autechre, Madonna, Massive Attack, Redcell, Air, The Knife, Portishead, Moby, Black Box Recorder, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Thievery Corporation, Garbage, PJ Harvey, The Avalanches and The Pet Shop Boys.
